Deloitte highlights key water issues in 2015

Whether it's related to price or scarcity, water is a common issue that Australian governments and the general population alike are keen to address. So much so, in fact, that earlier this year PwC called it the No 1 concern facing the world today.

It's also the reason why many Australians have invested in a polyethylene water tank. By reusing rainwater, wastage is reduced, while households and businesses have a free reserve stored up for a time when they need it most.

Deloitte also looked into the water challenges facing Australians today in its State of the Water Sector 2015 report, published in collaboration with the Australian Water Association. The pair outlined a number of challenges.

The first was climate change. Over the previous year, our changing environment posed a "significant or moderate risk to sustainable management of water" among 86 per cent of respondents.

However, other challenges persist, which fortunately can be overcome with a quality poly water tank.

Is the price of water too high?

For instance, Deloitte ranked the price of water and water regulation in its top five issues for 2015. One-quarter of respondents (25 per cent) said water prices were too high, putting a burden on their budgets.

Interestingly enough, 32 per cent believed prices were too low – perhaps concerned that the country's ability to manage such a precious resource may falter should bills drop too far.
